Pakistan and Sri Lanka squared off against each other in what could be termed as a clash between sub-continent teams. Both progressed to finals in contrasting styles but that does not count in finals. It is the performance in finals that matters the most. Afridi was the key man for Pakistan and Dilshan was the batting mainstay for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat as they have always done throughout the tournament. They were off to a disastrous start as lost 4 wickets within the 1st six overs. Sangakkara played a solid knock and scored half century and a late cameo by Angelo Mathews helped them to reach 138 which gave their bowlers something to bowl at. But Pakistan chased confidently and Afridi once again showed that he was the man for big occasions and guided his team to a comfortable victory. Pakistan once again showed that they are tough to beat in their day as they made Sri Lankans look like children. Pakistan thus achieved their which they came so close to achieve in the last edition of world cup.
