The first ODI between India and West Indies saw the going in favor of both the teams. India won the toss and batted first in what looked to be a good batting track. Dinesh Karthik batted brilliantly at the top of the order and scored a busy 67. When he was getting runs through unorthodox shots, Yuvraj got settled in and after some time, he got going. He started to smack 4s and 6s all over the ground. He scored a commanding 133 which laid the platform for the India’s big total. Harbhajan Singh and Yusuf Pathan accelerated at the latter part of the innings to get the total to 339.
West Indies were given a stiff target of 340 to chase. Openers gave them a flying start. But the problem they had was that they lost wickets at regular intervals. All the batsmen got starts but failed to convert them as Yuvraj did. As a result, even after a spirited chase, they fell short of the target by 20 runs. Aasish Nehra and Yusuf Pathan were the pick of the Indian bowlers as they took 3 wickets a piece. Yuvraj was given man of the match for his thunderous hundred.
